From the midnight pickup in Surabaya to the Sea of Sand — what a Bromo sunrise day really looks like.
Most of our Bromo journeys begin before midnight. Here is what to expect.
23:30 — Pickup in Surabaya
Your private car collects you from the hotel or Juanda Airport. The toll road makes the drive to the Tengger highlands smooth, so you can sleep on the way.
03:00 — Into the jeep
At Wonokitri you switch to a classic 4x4 Land Cruiser driven by a Tenggerese local. The jeep climbs to Penanjakan or Kingkong Hill.
04:30 — Sunrise
The sky turns orange behind the caldera: Bromo smoking in front, Batok beside it, and Semeru often puffing in the distance.
06:30 — Sea of Sand
The jeep descends into the caldera. Visit Pura Luhur Poten, ride a horse towards the crater stairs where access is open, then continue to the green Teletubbies savanna for drone photos.
Afternoon — Back in Surabaya
After brunch you are back at your hotel or the airport by early afternoon.
